The childcare crisis

Mama’s, you know what it’s like, when the sitter has arrived and yet the littles are not ready for you to work.

The relationship between childcare, mothers with careers, littles hearts, and how much to work… oy, this topic! My head and my heart.

Any mama out there feel me?

In 2020 a staggering number of women left the workforce to turn their attention to their children amidst the global pandemic. If you do a little reading, the impact of this is devastating! Loss of income for families, undoing years of progress for women working, loss is federal taxes, gender equality set backs, in short... the pandemic is putting a spotlight on an issue that has been there all along, and now we have your attention.

For women to be able to work there has to be another adult in the mix supporting her work.

That could be a partner, a nanny, a sitter, a childcare facility and yet so many of these options have been compromised due to the pandemic.

If you’re fortunate enough to have a healthy and reliable family member to help, count your blessings! That is not the case for most, and we have not even started talking about single parents!

So, what are we going to do? How are we going to support mothers to be able to work?

Do employers shoulder childcare costs and placement? Do people become more comfortable working at off times to make it work with the other adult in their home?

Seasoned mothers, what worked for you?

It’s time to speak up and help one another.
